09-21-2011 18:25 Medical resident under probe for possible rape Prosecutors said Tuesday they are investigating a hospital resident for rape on top of charges of injecting a general anesthetic into a female patient in her 20s. Lee was arrested on charges of injecting the anesthetic, Ketamin, into the patient while she was asleep in her room on the fourth floor of a hospital in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, around 2 a.m., May 19. The Jeonju Prosecutors’ Office said that it was additionally investigating whether the 28-year-old anesthesia intern identified as Lee assaulted the patient sexually. The suspect was found lying beside the sleeping female patient by a nurse who was making her rounds 20 minutes after the injection and immediately arrested by police who rushed to the hospital upon receiving a call from the nurse, according to the prosecution. A psychoactive chemical was detected in the patient’s body in a check by the National Scientific, Criminal & Investigation Laboratory. The police failed to find evidence although they investigated the case on assumption that the resident used the pain-killing drug to facilitate rape. The prosecution is re-investigating the case as doubts have been raised about ketamine, which is banned from being used because of its harmful psychoactive effects. The suspect flatly denied all the allegations. “I went to the wrong room on the fourth floor instead of the night-duty room on the third floor. I cannot remember what happened thereafter,” he was quoted as saying. Meanwhile, the hospital dismissed the intern three months after he was suspended due to the incident. 검찰, 女환자 마취제 주사 의사 성범죄혐의 수사 병실에서 잠든 20대 여성 환자에게 전신마취제를 투여한 혐의로 구속된 수련의사가 성범죄 혐의로 추가 수사를 받는 것으로 확인됐다. 전주지검은 마약류관리법 위반 등의 혐의로 구속된 전북 모 병원 마취과 레지던트 이모(28)씨가 성범죄를 저질렀는지를 추가 수사하고 있다고 20일 밝혔다. 이씨는 5월19일 오전 2시께 병원 4층 병실에서 잠든 환자 A씨에게 향정신성의약품인 케타민을 링거줄을 통해 투여한 혐의로 경찰에 구속됐다. 이씨는 범행 직후 A씨 침대에 나란히 누워 있다가 회진 중이던 간호사에게 20분 만에 발각됐고 A씨의 신고로 경찰에 검거됐다. 국립과학수사연구소 조사 결과, A씨 몸에서는 향정신성의약품 성분이 검출됐으며 경찰은 이씨가 성범죄를 저지르기 위해 케타민을 투여했다고 보고 수사했으나 성폭행 흔적을 찾지 못했다. 검찰은 이씨의 케타민 투여 목적이 미심쩍다고 판단해 이 부분을 집중 수사하고 있다. 이씨는 "술에 취해 라면을 먹으러 3층 당직실로 가려다가 4층 병실로 잘못 들어갔고 그 뒤 아무런 기억이 나지 않는다"며 혐의를 전면 부인했다. 검찰의 한 관계자는 "이씨 범죄에 대해 면밀히 수사 중이며 조만간 기소 여부를 결정하겠다"고 말했다. 한편, 병원 측은 사건 직후 이씨에게 정직 처분을 내렸다가 정직 기간 3개월이 지나자 직위해제했다.
